Kenneth Edward Barton

Kenneth Edward Barton, 89, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. He was born on March 22, 1928 in Pontiac, IL, the son of Reno and Lulu (Santelman) Barton. He served in the United States Air Force. On August 31, 1952 he married the love of his life Helen Janssen in Streator, IL. Kenneth graduated from Illinois State University in 1954 with his Bachelor's degree, and again in 1957 with his Master's degree. He had additional graduate work at Bradley University, U. of Illinois and Northern Illinois University. He began his teaching degree at Stanford High School and Peoria Richwoods High School, later at Western Illinois University. He was a professor, chairman of the Division of Technology and the Director of the Vocational programs at Rock Valley College from 1967-1991. He was an avid roller skater even well into his 80's. He was a skilled wood worker building furniture and many other items.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen; his children, Rick (Bonnie) Barton and Judy Barton; his grandchildren, Brian Muzzarelli, Eric (Jonna) Muzzarelli, and Nicci (Corey) Mayfield; great grandchildren, Michael Muzzarelli, Lauren Muzzarelli, Hailey Mayfield and Luke Mayfield; his brother, William (Barbara)Barton; and beloved dog, Abby. He is predeceased by his parents.
