Kathryn "Kathy" Lou Koehn, 61, lost her nearly year-long battle to esophageal cancer on September 28, 2018 at her home in Rockford, Illinois surrounded by those who loved and cared for her. She was born on July 20, 1957 in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of James H. Koehn and Bessie Lou (nee: Hagy) Koehn. Kathy graduated from Rockford West High School in 1977. She worked at Bridgeway (formerly Illinois Growth Enterprises) since high school and volunteered weekly at Rockford Memorial Hospital for over 15 years. She participated in Special Olympics taking home a bronze metal but her gold medal was in her love of dogs and all dogs loved her in return. Kathy loved puzzles, word searches, bingo, comic books and eventually doing all of these on her iPad that went everywhere with her. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, housemate and friend and will be missed all who knew her.
She leaves behind the loving and caring people of Milestone and especially those who lived with and cared for her at her home on Crested Butte Trail.
She is survived by her mother, Bessie Koehn of Rockford, IL; sisters, Debbie Koehn (Brenda Borkenhagen) of Schaumburg, IL and Sandy (Mark) Green of St. Charles, IL; nieces, Rosy and Evi Green of St. Charles, IL; aunt, Verneal (Koehn) Korn, Rockford, IL; cousin, Denise (Charlie) Granneman of Rockford, IL; and many aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, James and infant brother, David.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Court Street United Methodist Church, 215 N. Court St., Rockford. Visitation 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Milestone, Inc. (milestone-inc-il.org), 4060 McFarland Road, Rockford, IL 61111.
