Kathleen M. Marinelli, 73, Byron, died peacefully in her home on Thursday, May 13, 2021. This vivacious, supportive woman was born on July 31, 1947 in Rockford, daughter of Neil and Phyllis Edwards Driscoll. She was a 1965 graduate of Boylan Central Catholic High School, where she met her husband, Gregg. While studying for her bachelor’s degree at Tampa University, Kathy was captain of the cheerleading squad and president of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She followed with her Master’s Degree in Education from NIU. Kathy married her loving husband, Gregg Marinelli, in Rockford on July 10, 1971 and was looking forward to their 50th anniversary celebration this summer. She was a kindergarten teacher for many years at Rock Cut Elementary School and later a substitute teacher in Byron.
Kathy was happiest when she was spending time with her family. Whether organizing family dinners, setting the table for holiday parties, or supporting her family in everything they did, Kathy was the heart and soul of her family. She was devoted to her beloved grandson, James, who was the light of her life. She was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of her second grandson. When she was not spending time with her family, Kathy enjoyed playing Mahjong with some of her closest friends and meeting with her book club. Kathy was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Byron.

(Lisa) Marinelli, Jimmy Marinelli and Kristina (Andrew) McCorry; grandson, James Gregory McCorry; brother, Michael (Nancy) Driscoll; sister-in-law, Jan Bacino; brother-in-law, Tom (Bernie) Marinelli; close family friend John Malcotte, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
