Kathleen “Katie” M. Floetl-Malooly, 37, of Pecatonica, passed away on February 5, 2025, in Rockford. She was born on July 4, 1987, in Evanston IL, the daughter of Jack and Mary (LaBelle) Malooly. She married Corey Floetl-Malooly on June 21, 2014, in Pecatonica.
Katie's dedication to education was evident through her role as a teacher at Montessori Private Academy. While she was involved in all subjects, reading and science was what she loved most.
A proud graduate with a bachelor’s degree, Katie's commitment to enriching the lives of others extended far beyond the classroom. As a founding member of Our Tribe, a parenting group, she fostered community, connection, and support among families, creating a nurturing environment for both parents and children alike. This initiative reflected her innate ability to bring people together, ensuring that everyone felt seen and valued.
Katie was a loving mother, wife, daughter and aunt. She was an avid reader and master crafter, with a passion for quilting, scrapbooking and card making — each piece she created infused with a love that was palpable. Most importantly, her passion for crafting was something she lovingly passed down to her children, instilling in them the same joy of creativity that she cherished.
She is survived by her husband, Corey Floetl-Malooly; her sons, Elliot and Owen; her parents, Jack and Mary Malooly; her brothers, Matthew (Wyatt) Malooly, Timothy (Kelly) Malooly, and Daniel (Jennie) Malooly; her nieces and nephews, Declan, Maddie, Eamon, Annabelle, and Charlie; her cherished in-laws, Craig and Donna Jo Floetl; brothers-in-law, Ian Floetl, Jamison Floetl, and Kyle (Anne) Floetl; and her nephew, Otto.
A Celebration for Life for Katie will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. To share memories and condolences online, please visit www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
