Karyn N. Brokhausen, 70, of Rockford, passed away December 9, 2017 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born November 24, 1947, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Harvey G. & Doris N. (Luff) Sauber, Jr. She earned her Master of Arts in Education from National College of Education in Evanston, IL and was a teacher her entire professional career. She was an accomplished singer, flutist and pianist. She was fiercely passionate about all things, top of which was her family (of whom she was exceedingly proud). She loved to cook and entertain, and as a consummate hostess, no guest ever left without plenty of food, drink and hugs. She believed whole-heartedly that bigger was often better, but sparkles were always best.
Survivors include husband, Kurt; daughters Amanda (Douglas) Jankowski and Emily (Paul) Hartzog; son, Colin (Trinka) Kicklighter, former husband Victor Kicklighter. Preceded in death by parents.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Nonevski, Dr. Sreeni and the staff of OSF Medical Center for all their care and support.
The family will receive friends and family from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103. A private family burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Literacy Council in her name. Send online condolences at www.fitzgeralfh.com.
