Karen Ann Carlson

Karen Ann Carlson, 79, Rockford, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 13, 1941, in Rockford, the daughter of John and Katherine (Layre) Gustafson. Karen was a graduate of Rockford East High School, class of 1959 and after graduating from St. Anthony School of Nursing went on to work as a Registered Nurse in the Rockford area for over 30 years. She married Darrell Carlson on September 30, 1961. She was a very devoted and active member of St. Rita Catholic Church. Karen enjoyed reading, listening to music, going to movies and spending time with her family at their cabin in the North woods. Karen and Darrell have gone on many cruises together through the years. Most of all though Karen loved spending time with her family and cherished her time with their grandchildren.
Survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Darrell; her son Scott (Angie) Carlson; her grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Carlson; her brother, Kim Kowalewski and her sister, Mary Kay (Rick) Finholt; many nieces and nephews and several great friends.
Visitation will held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive, Rockford with the Most Reverend David J. Malloy, Bishop of Rockford officiating. Please note visitation and Mass dates are a week apart. Burial in St. Mary/St. James Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society in care of the family. Masks will be required at both the visitation and the Mass.
