It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kanwal Darshan Prashar peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2021. Beloved husband of Meenakshi (nee Saraswat), cherished father of Abhinav Prashar (Anusuya), Atul Prashar (Alpa). Proud grandfather of Ananya, Armaan, Arshan and Avaan.
Predeceased by his parents Bansi Ram and Ram Pyari, father-in-law Kashinath Saraswat, mother-in-law Kailash, brother Ramesh Chand, sister Parkash Vati, brother-in-law Ranjan Sharma (Tripta), and nephew Murari Lal (Late Shakuntala Devi). Survived by his sister Pavitra Rani, nephews Yash Paul (Mridula), Jatinder Paul (Late Rita), Satinder Paul (Raj Rani), Rajinder Paul (Neelam), and brothers-in-law Deepak Sharma (Madhu), Neelam Sharma (Sarita), and Sanjeev Saraswat (Anuradha).
He will be deeply missed by all Prashar, Sharma and Saraswat families and friends from around the world.
Kanwal Prashar retired from Rock Valley College after 40 years of service, and continued to teach as an Adjunct Professor at Rock Valley College and Rockford University. He was well travelled, loved gardening, and was an avid reader and prolific poet and song writer. He was very caring and selfless, and a devoted husband and father. He adored his grandchildren and loved them deeply. He was an active member in the community and dedicated to serving others in many communities.
Visitation at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, LTD, 1860 South Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108, 815-226-2273 on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 5 to 8 pm. Strict Covid protocols will be in place. All attendees will have their temperature checked, must wear a mask, face shield optional. There will be no seating as this is a walk through service only, in small groups of 4-5 people, socially distant from other groups, entering and exiting separate doors to pay respects. Kanwal Prashar’s family will be socially distant from visitors as well. Kanwal cared deeply for the community and we are taking every precaution to keep the community safe, as he would have wanted.
