June Marie Pankow

June Marie Pankow, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday September 16, 2019 after a short stay at Golden Palms Retirement & Health Center in Harlingen, Texas. June was born on June 1, 1934 and was raised on a farm in Lockport, Illinois. She was a retired registered nurse who worked at Rockford Memorial and Aetna Insurance. June was an avid reader and writer, and she was proud to have written a book about U.S. Presidents called "The Road to and From the White House.” She volunteered with the Literacy Council, spending time with adults learning to read. She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church. June was a longtime resident of Rockford before retiring to south Texas with her husband Norm.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Norman Pankow; daughter, Beverly Sneddon; son-in-law, Paul Sneddon; her grandchildren, Mallory Seagraves, Olivia McMeel, Blake Seagraves, Sara Sneddon and Tanya Boyer; siblings, Marge Adelman, Nicholas Welter, Robert Welter, Ruth Kinzler, Carol Stamm and Bette Lou McBride. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Her parents, Bernard "Barney" Welter and Mary W. Welter and her brother Bennie Welter precede her in death.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 South Mulford Road, Rockford. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive Rockford with Father Ervin Pio M. Caliente officiating. She will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois.
