JUNE F. MERA, 86 ROCKFORD - June F. Mera, 86, of Rockford died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, in her home, after a lengthy illness. Born June 27, 1923, in Rockford, the daughter of Chris and Florence (Bruneni) DeCarlo. June married Patrick Pat J. Mera on Oct. 28, 1945, in Rockford. Graduate of St. Anthony School of Nursing, where she then worked as a registered nurse and later taught at the School of Nursing. June then worked at Rockford Clinic for many years until her retirement. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Catholic Womans League. Also a member and past president of the Alumni Association of St. Anthony School of Nursing. She volunteered as a Rosary maker at St. Marys Catholic Church. June enjoyed playing cards with her friends in the 500 Group. Survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Pat; daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Jef Heckinger; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Paula Mera, all of Rockford; grandchildren, Anne (Scott) Cordes, Patrick P.J. (Sarah Cooling) Heckinger, Kevin (Brooke) Heckinger, Adrian Heckinger, Christopher Mera, Dr. Alexander (Amanda) Mera, Peter Mera and Theresa (Jack) Nethery; great-grandchildren, Grace, Hannah and Ian Cordes, and Sawyer Heckinger; sister-in-law, Jacqueline DeCarlo of Rockford; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her special niece, Donna Goetz. Predeceased by parents, and brothers, Chris DeCarlo, as an infant, and Carl DeCarlo. The Mera family thanks Junes caregiver, Ella Muller, for her loving and compassionate care, and also VNA Hospice for their wonderful care and attention, especially from Molly and Julie. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 4, in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford, IL 61107, with the Rev. David Beauvais officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
