June B. Cummings

July 19, 1918 — November 14, 2021

June B. Cummings, 103, of Rockford, IL, went to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 14, 2021. She was born on July 19, 1918, in Chicago to Charles and Ruth (Ellis) Baur. After graduating from Marshall High School, she worked several years for a large insurance company in Chicago and was an active member of the Methodist church. There she met Ernest Cummings who was preparing for the Methodist ministry at Garrett Theological Seminary. In 1942 they married and embarked on a long partnership of marriage and ministry, serving various churches in the Northern Illinois Conference. They made many lifelong friends wherever they were located and experienced a strong sense of fellowship well into their old age. In 1991 June and Earnest moved to Rockford, IL. She was a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church for over 30 years.
June loved music and spent most of her life listening to it, performing it, and teaching it. She played piano and sang all her life either in the church or with friends. She also played the organ and gave piano lessons to many children from her home with the family dog always at her feet. June enjoyed sewing, reading, and gardening. She loved books so much that when she was no longer able to read them herself, she started listening to audiobooks. She lived at Wesley Willows for over 30 years and volunteered her time there and especially loved helping with their flower and vegetable gardens. June was very friendly, kind, outgoing and loved to be around people. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

June is survived by her son, Paul Cummings and his wife Susan Gereau; her daughter, Deborah Cummings and her husband Joop Den Uijl; her grandchildren, Lindsey (Adam Good) Cummings, Vanessa (Thomas) Bombosch, Zara Roelse and Thomas Sloane; her great-grandchildren, Aiden Good, Jacob and Elin Bombosch; her niece, Janet (James Romano); and her nephew, Kenneth (Patty) Caldwell. She is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Ernest; her parents, Charles and Ruth; her brother, Buddy Baur; and her sister, Mary Lou Caldwell.

Services for June will be held at a later date. Cremation rights have been accorded. Arrangements entrusted to Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel. 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in June’s name to the Wesley Willow Good Samaritan Fund. 4141 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103
