Julie R. Tomkus

Julie Tomkus, 53, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. Julie was born in Rockford on July 30, 1962 to Patt Johnson and Charles Tomkus.Julie’s love and compassion for animals was a big part of her life. She rescued a variety of animals over the years and gave them needed attention and love. Julie could often be found frequenting thrift stores, garage sales, etc, not only for practical reasons, but also for the “thrill of the hunt”. She enjoyed decorating and could organize anything in no time flat! Julie cleaned houses for a living and was a hard worker. She especially enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, her grandchildren and being with her soul mate, Rick. They had four great years together doing fun things, especially riding together on his Harley. Julie could light up a room with her smile, her sense of humor and her infectious laugh and flair for fashion (her “Bling”). We love you Julie-we will miss you always. May we make each new day count. Julie was a loving person who will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her children Carrie Johnstone, Neil Tomkus (Fiance Katelyn) and Andrew Wolfe; grandchildren Krysta, Heather, Carsyn, Camdyn and Anthony; sisters Leslie Martin and Maria Lewis; brothers Jake and Tim Tomkus, her loving companion Rick Dixon; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her beloved dog, Pee Wee.
Funeral service Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary.
