Judith G. Winder

Judith G. Winder, 83, passed away on February 11, 2023, in Rockford, Illinois. Born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Dr. James "Pete" and Wilma Barker. Judy and her parents returned to Illinois where she attended elementary and high school in Eldorado. She graduated with the class of 1958. She then went to S.I.U. – Carbondale to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Education, graduating in 1962. Judy made fond memories working for the Rockford Speedway as a ticket salesperson for many years, and enjoyed 26 years teaching math before retirement from the Harlem School District. She was active in several areas. In college she was a member of the Sphinx Club, the top 25 student leaders on campus, Editor of the 1958 Obelisk, and Sigma Kappa Sorority. In later years, Judy began collecting buttons. She was involved at the state level in both Illinois and Wisconsin with the Button Society clubs. She also assisted the Rockford Wind Ensemble and was their representative on the Arts Council. Judy was a member of Riverside Community Church.


Judy is survived by her son, Mitchell; her grandchildren Andrea and Jarrett Winder; her sister Peggy Mangiaforte and her niece, Susan Schoening.


At this time cremation rites have been accorded with Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
