Juan “Sonny” G. Licon, 37, Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. He was born in Rockford on April 23, 1986, the son of Juan and Jody (Maggio) Licon. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, cousin and nephew to his entire family. He was also a great friend to so many people. Sonny was a graduate of Boylan High School, class of 2004. He later attended the Kendall School of Culinary Arts. He was the chef for the U.S. Ski team in Park City, Utah, before returning to Rockford where he owned and operated Sonny’s Italian Ice food truck. He always loved riding his bike and being around friends at the bike shop. Sonny always had a passion for cooking and making people happy. He showed that through cooking meals for family/ friends and the less fortunate. He will be truly missed!
Survived by his parents, Juan and Jody; his brother, Austin; his maternal grandparents, Sam and Jean Maggio; his aunts and uncles, Sam and Jenny Maggio, Rosa and John Birnbaum, Simon Licon, David “Chip” and Katie Licon, Robert and Lisa Licon, Marco and Beatriz Licon, Angel Licon, Emma and Luis Ramirez, Irma and Cesar Guzman, Gloria and Abraham Castillo and many beloved cousins. Predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Juan and Josephine Licon and his aunt, Jenny Licon.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, May 5, 2023, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend William R. Wentink officiating.
