Josephine L. Ricard Kapfer, 79, South Beloit, died at 4:49 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009 in Swedish American Hospital. Born February 17, 1930 in Libertyville, daughter of John O. and Lavera G. Matherley Quist. Married Wilbert L. Kapfer in Rockford on October 19, 1991. She was the former owner of the Lake Bluff Finer Foods for 15 years and worked at Arlington OTB in Waukegan for several years. Josephine was a nurturing woman who took care of everyone. She was a people person who was the life of the party. She enjoyed bingo and loved working in her garden.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Wilbert Bill Kaper; daughter, JoAnne (Mark) Labiak; sons, Gordon (Stacy) Ricard III, Terry Shields, Joseph Shields, Jerry Shields; grandchildren, Dawn (Nick) Ammon, Terry Shields, Matthew Shields, Jerry Shields, Sawyer and Connor Ricard and Sara and Dana Labiak; great-grandchildren, Cody and Tony; sister, Joyce (James) Shultz. Also survived by her step children, Daryl (Becky) Kapfer, Terry (Karen) Kapfer, Sherry (Matthew) DeBuhr and Gordon Ricard, Jr. Also survived by step-grandchildren, Michelle and Melissa Kapfer, Angela and William Kapfer, Scarlett McMahon, Andrea DeBuhr and Alex Ricard. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Gordon Ricard, Sr. and brother John Quist.
Funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 in Central Christian Church with Rev. Doug Bowden officiating. Burial in Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere. Visitation from 4-6 p.m. Sunday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church on Monday.
