Joseph F. Walker

Joseph F. Walker, 80, of Rockford, passed away at home on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

Joe was born in Rome, Georgia on January 20, 1944, the son of Raymond Walker and Barbara Rubin. He graduated from West High School, Class of 1961, and went on to complete the law enforcement academy to become a police officer. Joe proudly served his country as a Sargeant in the United States Army. He then served the city of Rockford as a police officer for 33 dedicated years before retiring as Lieutenant. Joe married Sandra K. Frenk on April 16, 1966, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvard, IL, where they attended services.

Joe enjoyed spending his time at the family cabin up north on Lost Lake in St. Germain, Wisconsin for many years of family vacation and great fishing. He was a proud member of the Clan McAlpine Pipes and Drums for many years. Joe was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and loved to cheer them on every season. Most of all, Joe cherished his time with family, especially his dear grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Sandra Walker; sons, Bradley (Heather) Walker and Marcus (Karen) Walker; grandchildren, Addison Walker, Kevin, Tyler and Tommy Walker; brother, Raymond (Jeannie) Walker and sister, Judy (Edward) Fox. Joe is predeceased by his father, Raymond Walker; mother, Barbara, stepfather, John Strachan, and parents-in-law, John (Gertrude) Frenk.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joe’s name to Assisting Hands or Heartland Hospice of Rockford.

A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Lombardi Club of Rockford, 209 Olive St. Rockford, IL 61107. A short service with the Police Chaplain will begin at 2:00 p.m. including police honor guard and bagpipes.
