Joseph Guy Shortino, "Joe Guy" , 84 of Rockford, died Sunday, March 2, 2013 in Phoenix, AZ with his family at his side. Joe deeply adored his family and brought love, joy, and humor to everyone he met.Born March 29, 1928 in Rockford the son of Carl J. and Lovina (Lane) Shortino. Graduated West High School Class of 1946 and married his loving wife Patricia "Pat" C. Carroll on June 28, 1969 in Rockton. Worked for Rockford Drop Forge as a Production Office Manager for 43 years prior to retiring in 1993. A faithful member of St. Edward Catholic Church where he volunteered in the Adoration Chapel and would also take communion to patients at Park Strathmoor Nursing Home. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Belvidere and was a constant Prayer Warrior for everyone as he prayed the Rosary daily.He sang with many groups including the Tony Colletti Orchestra and he played French horn with the Rockford Symphony. Joe was an avid Chicago White Sox baseball fan and a passionate Fighting Illini basketball fan. Survivors include his children; Steve Shortino of FL; Thomas Shortino of AZ, Lynn (Craig) Elam of GA, and David Shortino of GA; grandchildren, Joshua and Chris; sisters, Cristy Jones of AZ, Carla (Steve) Bennett of Rockford and Mary (Archie) Reeder of AZ; brother, Richard Shortino of Lindhurst; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends John DiMarco, Charles and Cathie Schanes, and many additional friends from St. Edwards. Preceded in death by his wife, Pat on March 15, 1998 and his sister, Beverly Barber. Funeral Mass Monday, March 11 at St. Edward Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation Sunday, March 10 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. from 13 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service to be recited at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project or The V Foundation For Cancer Research.
