Joseph P. (Joey) Falzone II, 68, of Cherry Valley died at his home at 11:01 P.M.on January 7, 2014 after a two year battle of physical problems from exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam during the early 1960's. He was born May 5, 1945 to Joe and Noma Falzone. He attended Boylan Central Catholic High School and on February 1, 1964 he married Patricia Kelly. Served His country during the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart when he was wounded while protecting U.S. helicopters that were under attack by the Viet Cong. He then became a Winnebago County Sherriff's Deputy and was in charge of security at the courthouse until he retired in 2007. He was one of the Founding Fathers of VietNow which now has more than 400,000 members. He loved his Chicago Bears and the Cubs. He also never met a casino he didn't like. Joey had hundreds of friends in his second home of Isla Mujeres, MX that he visited for more than 30 years. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dawn Roberts for the love and exceptional care she gave to Joey, also to his nurse Lindsey and to Heartland Hospice.
Survivors include his daughter, Laurie Falzone; son, Joseph P. Falzone III; sister, Dixie Lee Wagner; brothers, Don (Nancy) Falzone John(Kathy) Falzone; sister, Mary Ellen Falzone (Robert) Crowell; Nieces, Bonnie Falzone Capriola, Brenda (Dan) Phillip, Kim M Gierloff, Teresa(Todd) Sallinger; nephews, John and Bryan Falzone, Benny(Kerry) Falzone; great nieces, Anna, Rocsi, Paige, Kayla and Brooke; great nephews, Ryan(Keeley), Barry, Joseph , John, Anthony and Brandon, Ashton and Cody.
Predeceased by his mother and father; brother, Raymond Falzone and great nephew, Barry Falzone.
Visitation will be at noon on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. William R. Wentink at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Memorials may be made in care of the family. Express condolences and share memories at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
