Joseph Miles Mihm, 86, of Beloit, passed away at 8:00 PM Friday, March 9, 2007 in Premier Nursing Home, Beloit, Wis. He was born in Rochelle, IL, January 2, 1921, the son of Joseph E. and Rachael C. Hannon Mihm. Graduated from Steward, IL. High School in 1939. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and South Pacific. He was assigned to an air and sea rescue unit on Canton Island one half degree below the equator for ten months. He married Margaret Lynch in June 1947. She passed away in March 2006, after 58 years of marriage. They had one son John that passed away in July 1970 at the age of sixteen. As a family they were able to travel extensively, visiting every state but Alaska. After retiring, they went to Ireland and Hawaii. Mrs. Mihm retired in 1954 and Joseph in 1983 after working 42 years for Barber Colman Company. Joseph is predeceased by his parents and brother George. He is survived by sister Harriet and 27 nieces and nephews. Funeral mass of Christian Burial will be at 1PM Tuesday March 13, 2007 in St. Jude Catholic Church, 747 Hackett St. Beloit, Wis., with Father Steven Kortendick officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until time of service at the church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago, IL. In lieu of flowers a memorial to be established.
