Joseph Michael Maggio, Jr.

Joseph Michael Maggio, Jr., 67, of Rockford, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Christmas Day, December 25, 2017. He was born in Rockford on February 22, 1950; the son of Joseph and Frances (LaMarca) Maggio, Sr. Joseph married the love of his life, Patricia Martorana on April 4, 1970 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rockford where he and his wife were baptized. Joe graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor Degree in Science and he went on to work for Sunstrand Corp. as a Telecommunications Analyst for 34 years. He spent his free time as a member of the St. Ambrogio and Verdi Clubs where he loved playing Bocce. Joe also loved playing golf and woodcarving in his retirement. He was a thoughtful, sensitive, and gentle man whose memory will stay with us forever.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Maggio; siblings, Marie Maggio, Christopher (Andrea) Maggio, and Anna (Dennis) Swick; sister in-law, Linda Maggio; aunts, Janet Maggio and Mamie Parrino; brothers in-law, Philip (Francine) Martorana and John (Cynthia) Martorana; special cousin and friend, Allan (Kathy) Maggio; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many dear golfing and bocce buddies. Joseph is predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Alexander Maggio.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St., Rockford, IL, 61102; with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Burial will be private and on a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to the Corpus Christi Monastery of the Poor Clares, 2111 S. Main St., Rockford, IL, 61102.
