Joseph Lynde

Joseph Lynde, 87, of Rockford, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 at Swedish American Hospital. Born November 9, 1920 in Hazel Green, WI, son of Charles Joseph and Gladys Lynde. Joe married the love of his life, Helen Meehan, October 1, 1949 at St. Edwards Church in Rockford. He served as a member of the United States Marine Corps., Marine Air Group Fourteen from Oct. 14, 1942 until he was honorably discharged on Nov. 5, 1945, with a rank of S.Sgt. He was a two-time Golden Gloves Champion, President of the Rockford Boxing Club and Swedish American Gym. Joe was the former co-owner of Tietz-Lynde Co. for 60 years. He was an active member at St. Edwards Church, a member of the parish council and the Knights of Columbus. Joe was always happy to help out anyone in need, putting others before himself. He was a very caring, generous man who loved spending time with his family. Joe is lovingly survived by wife, Helen; sisters, Virginia Kinney, Patricia (Harold) Tietz; sons, John (Lynne) Lynde of Rockford, Peter Lynde of Rockford, Thomas (Judy) Lynde of Rockton, Joseph (Beverly) Lynde of Rockford, Charles (Jennifer) Lynde of Cherry Valley, Michael (Joy) Lynde of Rockford, James Lynde of Phoenix; grandchildren, Jody Lynde, Kelly (Ryan) Nestler, Christine (Dustin) Kowalski, Andrea (Kerry) Treadman, Brian Lynde, Bradley (Kelly) Lynde, Rachel (Borisz) Bacsovics, Matthew Lynde, Jamie (Shawn) Hanson, Stephanie Lynde, Jordan Lynde, David Lynde, Aaron Lynde, Daniel Lynde, Zachary Lynde, Sarah Lynde, Megan Lynde, Joshua Lynde; great-grandchildren, Andrew Nestler, Tyler Lynde, Addison Hanson, Payton Treadman, Chloe Nestler, Baily Grace Lynde, Brianna Kowalski, Addison Treadman, Braydon Lynde, Caleb Lynde, Kaitlyn Lynde, Alex Kowalski, Rylan Hanson, Allison Lynde. Pre-deceased by parents; infant son; sister, Leona Cavanagh; brother, Robert Lynde; sister, Marie Layng. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff on 7 West at Swedish American Hospital for their loving and respectful care. Funeral Mass Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Black officiating. Interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside chapel 3910 N. Rockton Ave with a Rosary service to be recited at 7:30 p.m..
