Rockford Joseph F. Newman Sr., 90 ofRockford died at 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday,October 8, 2008 in his home surrounded by his family and his loving dog, Nicki. Born on September 24, 1918 in NewDiggins, Wisconsin. to William D. and Anna (Field) Newman. Joseph married Kathleen E. Sassali inRockford on October 7, 1940. She predeceased him on April 2, 1999. He served in the Navy on the USS EBERLE. Retired from J.L. Clark Manufacturing Co. in 1987 after 50 years of employment as group vice-president. A member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus of St. Bridget. Also a member of Rotary Club and the National Metal Decorators Association.He designed the first track that is used for the Rockford Boy Scouts Soap Box Derby races. Joseph was also an avid golfer.
Survivors include his daughter; Patricia (Neal) Setchell of La Grange; son; Joseph (Wendy) Newman Jr., ofRockford; grandchildren, Neal (Tess) Setchell Jr., Kathleen Setchell,Stephanie Newman and Samantha Newman. Also survived by his great-grandchildren Jillian Setchell and Shannon Setchell. Brother-in-law Michael Sassali. Also predeceased by his parents; 8 brothers, 3 Sisters.We wish to express our deepest thanks to his caregivers over the last few months, who cared so lovingly for him Kim, Jandie, Amber, Latoyna, British, Anita,, and Jodi.
