Joseph E. Sagona

Joseph Edward Sagona, 78, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

Joseph was born in Rockford, IL on August 2, 1943, the son of Joseph and Isabel (Melenas) Sagona. He graduated from St. Thomas High School, Class of 1961. Joseph served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 10 years. He married Durinda A. Cantwell on February 12, 1966, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rockford. He was employed for Ingersoll Milling Machine for 23 years and most recently, Green Giant for 4 years. Joseph was a lifetime member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop in the basement at home, creating all sorts of gadgets. He was a true dog lover, enjoying the companionship of many dogs throughout his life. Joseph also loved being the photographer for many gatherings, capturing memories with his family. He was a wonderful husband and proud father, supporting all the fun activities his boys were involved in. He took great care of his family and anyone in need. Joseph will be dearly missed.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Durinda; sons, Joseph and John Sagona (Jana Hite); grandchildren, Taylor, Gianna, Jaclyn and Aidan; brother, Gerald Sagona and nieces and nephews, Julie and Jerry Sagona, Joe Sagona, Jane Hans and Rick Tillou. Joseph is predeceased by his parents and brother, Francis Sagona.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N Rockton Ave. Rockford, IL 61103. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave. Rockford, IL 61103. Final resting place will conclude in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, IL.
