Joseph Dale Fones

Joseph Dale Fones, 77, of Rockford died unexpectedly on Friday, May 12, 2017 in his home. Born January 11, 1940 in Quincy, IL the son of Earl Joseph and Casiena Ellen (Bross) Fones. Joe had a big laugh and an even bigger heart. Over the course of his life, he had owned his own jet boat company, worked in engineering, construction, electronics and, most recently, worked for a trucking company. He was an active member of the Verdi Club, a licensed pilot, a lover of Jazz and Big Band music. He cherished time with his extended family and his many friends, and was never happier than when surrounded by children, handing out candy and small toys. Survivors include his brother, Thomas Earl Fones of FL.; Margaret (Richard) Raether of Rockford; nephew, Joshua Aaron Raether; nieces, Casiena Elizabeth Raether and April Anderson and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Pastor Dale Anderson officiating.
