Jonathan "Jon" Petrow died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on March 8, 2018 in Rockford, Illinois. He was 77-years-old. Jon was born on March 22nd, 1940 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI to his parents, John and June (Aube) Petrow. He graduated from Loretto Catholic Central High School. Following graduation, he spent several years working for the Merchant Marines servicing ships on the Great Lakes, and went on to earn a Master Auto Technician Certification at Ferris State University. In the early 1960s, he moved to Rockford, IL and opened his own auto repair shop (Jon's Auto Service) where he made a career out of his passion for cars, making many friends through customers along the way. Outside of work and the upkeep of his personal collection of cars and motorcycles, he also loved to fish, especially with his best friend Cal. He also enjoyed country music and dancing at his favorite honkytonks.
Jon is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Joe and Heidi Petrow; his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Bruce LeVasseur; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Darlene Petrow; his son, Jim Petrow; their mother, Dolores Thompson; his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Brenda Petrow; his sister, Linda Storms; his special friend, Barb Benney, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents John and June (Aube) Petrow, and his step-father, Guy Brassar.
All are welcome to celebrate Jon's life at a visitation Sunday, March 11th from 1pm-3pm followed by a service at 3pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road in Rockford, IL.
