Johnny H Lockett

December 8, 1932 — February 22, 2016

Johnny “John” H. Lockett, 83, of Rockford, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 in his home. Born Dec. 8, 1932 in Hamlet, NE and moved to Rockford in 1948. A veteran of the US Air Force serving in the Korean War from 1951-1955. During this time he met and married his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy “Dort” E. Harne and together they began their family. John worked for Elco Industries as a machinist and retired in 1992 and then worked part time for Davey’s Riverside Inn until 2006. A member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and former 25 year member Free Mason’s Lodge 166. John loved spending time with his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan and cheered them on every chance he got. His kind and caring ways, his big heart and his gracious smile will be missed dearly by his family and the friends he’s made along the way. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to OSF Home Care and Hospice for their compassionate support these past days.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Rockford; children, Janet (Greg) Daggett, Robert (Laura) Lockett and David Lockett all of Rockford and Karen (Mike) Jacobson of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Carri-Ann (Derek) Johnson, Brian (Sarah) Cook, Sarah (Joshua) Peterson, Matthew Ditto; Melissa and Katlyn Jacobson; great grandchildren, Brandon and Alyssa Johnson, Jonathan and Levi Cook, Matthew “Mj” and Brock Ditto, Jeslyn and Joleigh Peterson and Cory Jacobson; brother, Bobby Lockett; sister-in-law, Betty Lockett and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Carrie F.; grandchildren, Jessica Border and Uriah Rux; great grandson, Brayden Ditto; son-in-law, Angelo Catanese; brothers, Eugene and Willis Lockett; sister, Lucille Meyers and sisters-in-law, Eva Lockett and Christine Lockett.
Funeral service Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave with US Air Force Chaplain Kevin Lockett officiating along with Pastor Wanda McNeil of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park. Visitation Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside chapel and continues on Friday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name to the family for a fund to be established.
