John W. "Sonny" Shearer, 67, of Monroe Center passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009 in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born February 1, 1942, the son of John Forest and Marion (Beer) Shearer. He graduated from Stillman Valley High School and later married Marjorie Johnson on January 4, 1964. She predeceased him on October 17, 2009. Sonny worked for Rockford Products for over 40 years before his retirement in 2004. He was a Trustee of the Monroe Center Fire Department for 30 years and loved his tractor, gardening and trees. Sonny was a very experienced gardener and grew a wide variety of things during his life. He loved going on vacations and traveling with his wife and sister-in-laws. He is survived by his daughters Teresa (David) Stewart of Rockford and Cindy (Tim) Gunderson of Monroe Center. Grandchildren Amber, Brittney and Courtney Gunderson and David Stewart. Siblings Dennis, Diana, Forest, Kenneth, Luanna and to his sister Judy- though distance and time has separated us, you will always be with me. Also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, wife, sister Shirley, brother Larry and niece and goddaughter Tammy and niece Barbie. Funeral Service will be Friday, November 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108 with the Rev. Mark Campbell officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, November 12, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service in the funeral home.
