John Stavros

John Stavros, 68, of Rockford passed away Wednesday June 7,2017, surrounded by his family. Born July 22, 1948 in Rockford, son of Peter and Bernice( McElroy)Stavros. John was an outdoorsman an expert fisherman and an avid storyteller. John("Big John" to those who knew him) was comfortable in any setting and had a calming way about himself.
Nothing made him happier than sharing a story and a beverage with new and old friends alike. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his many nieces, nephews and friends, preferably on a lake or a river. He shared many life lessons with them all. John was the family historian. He had a great memory and if he did not know the answer he could make up a great story.
John graduated from Boylan H.S and attended the University of Wisconsin.

John was devoted to his beloved life partner Virginia Barelli: his siblings
Peter(Diane)Stavros, Nick(Susan)Stavros, David(Pam)Stavros and Kathryn(Dan) Brewer, many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
