John R. Schmidt

John R. Schmidt, 67, of Belvidere, IL passed away Monday, May 10, 2021 in his home. He was born June 11, 1953 in Elgin, IL the son to Robert B. and Ruth (Wilkinson) Schmidt. John married Deborah Goddard (Oakes) on March 4, 2006. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment truck driver. John was a proud member of the Suburban Teamsters of Northern Illinois. John had an affinity for the outdoors, whether camping, fishing or golf it did not matter as long as he was outside. John enjoyed traveling to Destin, FL and the Smokey Mountains for family reunions. He was a determined, creative man with a good sense of humor and a knack for fixing things. Most of all, John loved the time he spent with his family. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debbie; daughter, Aimee (Victor) Motisi; step son, Michael (Jake Hamil) Goddard; step daughter, Susanne (Jeremy) Sanders; granddaughter, Ainsley Motisi; brother-in-law, C. David (Sue) Oakes; former brother-in-law, Jeff Kessner; lifelong friend, Bob Quigley. Predeceased by his parents; mother and father-in-law; former spouse, Jaimie.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 14, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
