John M. Otten

John Michael. Otten, 41, formerly of Chester, IL, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at his home in Rockford, Illinois.

He was born to Donald Otten and Brenda (nee Amschler) Otten on June 12, 1976 in Red Bud, Illinois.

John worked in engineering. His work for Motorola took him to China, Germany, and Mexico. Some of his projects were: OnStar for the Cadillac Division of General Motors and Mercedes-Benz, the 2014 Dodge truck transmission - he corrected the shifting problem. While working for National Testing Services in Rockford, he was working on the backup generator for a fighter plane, the noise in an MRI machine, and had just finished testing the computer in the wing flaps of a fighter jet, soon to be released.

John’s greatest passion was spreading the word of God’s love and salvation and his son, Noah.

Survivors include his father, Donald (Sondra) Otten; mother, Brenda (Amschler); son, Noah Michael (Amanda Baldwin – his mother); maternal grandmother, Mildred Amschler; sister, Christina Otten (special friend - Benitiz); 4 brothers, Robert, Roy, Antonio and Carlos; nephew, Jordan and neice, Jazzi.
Preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Michael and Shirley Otten; maternal grandfather, Marvin Amschler; brother, Patrick Otten; and aunt, Christine Otten.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois with the Reverend Tim Sims officiating. Memorial visitation will be from 8:00 A.M. until time of service at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois. Private burial will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Chester, Illinois.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford, Rockford, IL 61108.
