John H. Dixon, Sr, 86, of Rockford, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at Presence St. Anne’s Center. Born May 7, 1930 in Rockford, the son of James & Esther (Erb) Dixon. Graduated from St. Thomas High School, class of 1948. Served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Married Sarah R. Intravaia-Marinaro in Rockford on November 24, 1952 at St. Patrick Church. During his life, John worked as a machinist at Barber Coleman, Rockford Machine Tool, Amistar, Rexhan, and McNulty Manufacturing, retiring in 1996. Later he worked at Walmart as a greeter for years. Member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and the Moose Club.
Survivors include children William (Marlene) Dixon, Tom, Charles (Ruth), Martin, Michael (Chris Naughton) Marinaro and Rosemary (Dave) Mangun; grandchildren Lisa, Tony, Renata, Matt and Tim; great grandchildren, Anthony Jr, Alonzo, Gianni and Henry; brothers Jim and Eddie (Juanita) Dixon; sisters Helen (John) Stuffler, daughter in law Debbie Dixon, numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, wife, sons Edwin and John Jr, sisters Patricia Earnhart, Maureen Dixon and Mary Dixon and brother Bill Dixon.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Bernadette Church, 2400 Bell Ave, Rockford, IL 61103. Visitation 5-8 pm Thursday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103 and from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at church Friday. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Catholic Foundation-Dixon Memorial.
