John E. Montgomery

John E. Montgomery, 80, of Winnebago, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 in his home with his family by his side. Born December 5, 1933, in Rochelle, the son of Harold F. and Mary E. (Watson) Montgomery. He graduated from Rochelle High School. He served in the United States Army Military Police in Germany. John was a farmer, owning his own farm in the Malta/Esmond Area. He married Beverly J. Synnott on May 26, 1962; she preceded him in death on August 10, 1983. He later married Karen Laue in October of 1990. John enjoyed going to antique tractor shows, building metal sculptures, gardening and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. John was a quiet man whose wise words taught his family forgiveness, love, patience and many other virtues.
Survived by his wife, Karen; children, Susan (Kevin) Hildebrand, Robin (John) Redington and Barry (Sarah) Montgomery; step children, Lloyd (Renee) Fulcer and Larissa (Cory) Ertmer; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Danny, Ben, Caroline, Ximena and Eleena; sister, Alice (Norman) Rice and brother, David (Sharon) Montgomery. Preceded in death also, by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, James F. and Marlyn Montgomery, sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary (Lawrence) Mowers.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Faith Community Church, 212 W. McKimmy Street, Davis, Illinois. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Inurnment in Greenview Cemetery, Esmond, Illinois at a later date.
