Joanne Lynn Lancaster, 78, of Rockford was called home on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. She was born on July 28, 1939 in Milwaukee, WI; daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Johansmeyer) Payne. Joanne married her loving husband, Paul Milton Lancaster on September 10, 1960 in Beloit, Wisconsin. As a graduate of the Rockford Memorial Nursing School, Joanne served the local community as a Registered Nurse at Rockford Memorial Hospital and the Rockford Clinic. Joanne was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran and most recently, Grace Lutheran Church. Her spiritual strength was shared with those in need while serving as Stephen and Barnabas ministers. Joanne overflowed with creativity. Ceramics, needlework, painting, and card-making brought great joy to her and those with whom she taught and collaborated. Joanne’s social circles included the Red Hats, bible study group, and euchre club. She enjoyed people and had a heart for those in need. Her example of perseverance and kindness was contagious and her positive attitude and easy smile will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Lancaster; children, Beth (Matt) Geurink of Medina, MN, and Tom Lancaster of Rockford; grandchildren, Abigail and Andrew Geurink; aunt, Betty Kitchin of Oceanside, CA; cousin, Dorothy (Bob) Curry; and her special friend, Carmen Ashby who took such good care of Joanne for so many years. Joanne is predeceased by her parents, and her uncle, Bob Kitchin.
