Joan Shepherd

Joan Shepherd, 93 of Rockford died peacefully on Christmas morning surrounded by her family. Born October 30, 1923 in Manchester, England the daughter of Harold and Elizabeth Noak. Married her loving husband Albert Shepherd and together raised 2 beautiful daughters. Joan worked as a legal secretary for many years in California. She was an avid gardener and baker and her time was well spent when she was with her family, they brought a smile to her face and warmth in her heart anytime she saw them. Her kind and compassionate way and her love for animals will be greatly missed. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Northern Illinois Hospice and to her caregivers, Robin Andrews, Sherri, Heather and Jessica Gomez and Kenya Roundtree.
Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth Anne Marth of Rockford and Glennys (Russell) Eaton of CA; granddaughter, Elizabeth G. (Anthony) Tarara and great grandchildren, Anthony and Lilah Tarara all of Rockford, special k9 companions, Fella and Fig and her dear friends Frazier Family and Jan Hensel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert and her son-in-law, David S. Marth.
Memorial service Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10 am at Court Street United Methodist Chapel with Rev. Calvin Culpepper officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials in her name to PAWS Humane Society of Winnebago County. Express online condolences at: www.fitzgeraldfh.com
