Jill E. Torgerson

February 18, 1944 — January 18, 2025

Rockford

Jill E. Torgerson, a vibrant spirit born on February 18, 1944, in Boscobel, Wisconsin, daughter to Shelby and Eunice Proudfoot, left this world peacefully on January 18, 2025, in Rockford, Illinois. She embraced life with a remarkable passion that carried her through decades of joyous adventures and meaningful connections. For over twenty years, Jill dedicated herself to being the community service liaison for United Way at Rockford Hamilton Sundstrand. Those who knew Jill treasured her infectious laughter and her remarkable sense of humor. Social gatherings were always enriched by her presence; she was never one to shy away from making new friends and sharing stories that would leave those around her in stitches. Her involvement in numerous community and social clubs reflected her unwavering desire to be an active participant in her community. With a calendar perpetually full of activities, Jill thrived on being surrounded by loved ones, always seeking the next opportunity to bring joy to others, or to immerse herself in the world’s wonders. Jill held a special fondness for travel, often finding herself visiting her beloved daughter, Julie, in various places that she lived—be it Texas, Germany, or Indiana. The joy of travel didn’t stop there; Jill embarked on yearly cruises, exploring distant shores, and cultivating beautiful memories. Her adventures even took her to Barcelona, Spain. An avid gardener, Jill’s green thumb flourished in her love for nature. She took great delight in nurturing her plants and spending time outdoors. Whether she was cheering on her five grandsons or making treasured memories with her kids, her proudest accomplishments were undeniably found in the roles of being a mother and grandmother.

She will be missed by those who loved her most, her children Andra (Dan) Nagle, Wayne Gahl, Julie (Michael) Morrison, Keith (Nicole) Gahl, Tenley Proudfoot, and Ron (Janet) Torgerson; her grandsons Andrew Colombi, Preston Gahl, Cade Gahl, Brion Gahl and Dylan Gahl; her brother Jon (Karen) Proudfoot and a very special mention to Trisha and Traci Scott. She is predeceased by her husband Avery Torgerson; her parents Shelby and Eunice; her siblings William Proudfoot, Pat Proudfoot, and June McWaters. A very special thank you to Sanctuary Hospice as well as Alden Debes for all of the compassion and care they showed to Jill and family.
