Jerold C. Schuknecht (1938-2016)
Jerry Schuknecht, 78, of Rockford, died Saturday, April 16 at his home. Born March 12, 1938 to George and Thelma Schuknecht of Saginaw, MI. He married Jeanette Ruedlinger in June, 1966 in Affton, MO. Jerry earned his Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University, River Forest, IL in 1961 and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education Administration at St. Louis University in 1966 and a Certificate of Advanced Studies from Northern Illinois University in 1981. His teaching career as God’s faithful servant spanned 4 decades as an upper grade teacher at Salem Lutheran in Affton MO, principal and teacher at St. James Lutheran School in Lafayette, IN, Immanuel Lutheran School in Belvidere, IL, Emmanuel Lutheran School in Fresno, CA, and completed his career as principal and teacher at Redeemer Lutheran School in Denver, CO. Jerry very much enjoyed watching college athletics, especially anything involving his beloved Michigan Wolverines. In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, travel, theater, programs at the Center for Learning and Retirement, and participating in the Civil War roundtable. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, both of his brothers, and his daughter-in-law, Carrie. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Jeanette, his sons, Jonathan and Joel, daughter Jacqueline (Nicholas) Stark, and his five grandchildren: Xander and Zoe Schuknecht, and Alexander, Madeline, and David Stark. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Northwest Site) at 2 PM on Wednesday, April 20, with visitation starting at Noon, In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran School Tuition Fund.
