Rockford- Jerry Carl Sandman, 74, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Rockford Memorial Hospital after an accident and short illness. Born July 30, 1934 in Sioux City, IA, the son of Henry and Katherine Sandman. He spent 8 years in the United States Navy and served our country in the Korean War. Jerry found peace and serenity at sea. He moved to Rockford, Il in 1968 and was a proud member of the Carpenters Local 792 for 35 years. Jerry remained active in Union activities until just shortly before his death. He married Mary Elaine in 1972 and fondly called her ?Lovie and ?his bride. First and foremost, Jerry was a kind, thoughtful, loving husband and father and a caring and loyal friend. He found great pleasure in helping others and always found a way to put a smile on some ones face. He loved nature, birds, flowers and the world was a brighter place for his presence. Jerry was a man of integrity, principle and his word. He taught his family important things, especially how to love and be loved. Jerry is lovingly survived by his wife, Mary Elaine; daughter, Lyn (Kermit grandchildren Brett (Tamara) and Traci (Mike) and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Terry. Visitation Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 1-3 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside chapel 3910 N.
