Jeannine K. Cook, 84, of Rockford died Saturday, January 14, 2017 in her home. Born March 4, 1932 in Des Moines, IA the daughter of Charles H. and Elizabeth (Raudonis) Riley. Graduated from West High School class of 1949 and married her loving husband and best friend, James R. Cook on March 31, 1951 at St. Edward Catholic Church. She worked for many years as a supervisor at Rockford Memorial Hospital in the Housekeeping Department and later worked at Ellen Stiles Elementary School in the Cafeteria until her retirement in 1995. She was an active member of the ladies guild at both St. Edward and St. Bernadette’s and was a proud member of the Mary’s Rosary Makers. She was a former coordinator of St. Patrick Food Pantry and the Clothes Closet. She was awarded Catholic Woman of the Year in 2009 from St. Patrick’s. She loved her nieces and nephews. Jeannine had a heart of gold and a wonderful personality and sense of humor, she will be missed dearly by those who loved and knew her.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, James Cook; children, Michael (Clarice) Cook, Daniel Cook, Colleen (Tom) Stinson, John (Karla) Cook and Therese Dalton; 14 grandchildren, Shawn, Ryan, Jeremy, Matthew, Benjamin, Sarah, Jim, Josh, Seth, Dionne, Elise, Christopher, Alex and Anthony, 6 great-grandchildren, Maya, Luna, Oscar, Max, Maddie and Maizie, and 1 on the way; son-in-law, Ricco Ramirez; sister, Rita (George) Morgan; niece, Michelle; nephews, Rick and Rob (Robin) and special friend and private nurse, Wendy Slick. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Marie Ramirez; grandson, Jonathan; daughter-in-law, Patricia Cook and brother, Richard Riley. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. May Hashimi and her nurse Carrie at Mercy Health Cancer Center.
Funeral Mass Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave. Burial will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park. Visitation Wednesday, January 18 from 4-6 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with a rosary service at 6 p.m. Visitation continues on Thursday at church in the parish hall from 9 a.m. until time of prayer at 9:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in her name to Poor Claires Monastery or Carpenters Place.
