Jeanne T. Armstrong, 90 Our Mom AND Grandma Jeanne ROCKFORD - Jeanne T. Armstrong, 90, of Rockford passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 30, 2010. Born June 9, 1920, in Minneapolis to Phillip and Rachel (Bernard) Gaudette. She married Maurice M. Armstrong; together they raised four children. She retired from the Winnebago County Health Department after many years of faithful service as the registrar of births and deaths. Jeanne was a kind, generous and loving soul who was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. Although there was much heartache in her life, she remained steadfast in her devout Catholic faith and persevered with grace and dignity. Before the diagnosis of Alzheimers disease, she was an avid reader; card player, especially bridge; and volunteer, who enjoyed riding her bike on the Sinnissippi bike path. Jeanne is survived by her daughters, Sue (Larry) Eickman of Glendale, Ariz., and Patrice (Louie) LaBella of Rockford; her grandchildren, Matt (Casie) LaBella of Seattle, Jordan Eickman of Northridge, Calif., Mary E. (Steve) Gies of Darnestown, Md., Jenny Armstrong of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Jay Armstrong of Wauconda; great-grandchildren, Noah, Jesse, Lucy and Trent; her loving, little sister, Therese Mueller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her spouse, Dr. Maurice M. Armstrong; sons, James C. and Michael M. Armstrong; sisters, Claire Faue and Yvonne Siegler; and brother, Ben Gaudette. The family would like to thank the nurses on C Wing at Alden Park Strathmoor, including Diane, Veronica and Marian; nurse practitioner, Heather; and the nursing assistants for their loving care of our mom. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff of Family Centered Hospice (the angels in purple), especially Lorna, who helped us to the very end of this journey. Cremation rites were accorded. A Mass of celebration to honor Jeannes life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, in Cathedral of St. Peter, with visitation from 9 a.m. to service time. The Rev. Monsignor Gerald Kobbeman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Family Centered Hospice, 2171 Executive Drive, Suite 450, Addison, IL 60101.
