Jean R. Liegel, 91, of Rockford passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born July 2, 1926, in Lodi, Wisconsin, the daughter of Louis E. and Kunigunda (Eckstein) Wearnisch. Jean married Gregory H. Liegel on October 20, 1945; they were married for 51 years until he died in 1996. She then married Orville Wilson. They were married for a few years until he passed away. Jean worked for the IRS for 40 years and in retirement worked for the Marengo Beacon News. She loved to travel around the world, knit and work on crossword puzzles. Jean was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
Survived by her sister, Sylvia Wearnisch; longtime dear friend, Cathy (Ben Cowart) Rogers; friend and caregiver, Diana Ziolkowski; nephew, Greg (Alice) Hutter; many nieces and nephews and kitty, Precious. Also predeceased by her parents.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial in St. Luke Cemetery in Plain, Wisconsin, on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Health VNA Hospice.
