Jean E. Johnson, 95, Rockford, died on Friday, December 4, 2020 in P.A. Peterson Center For Health. Born March 8, 1925 in Walworth County, WI, daughter of Antone Gaylord and Edith Probst Gaylord. Graduate of Woodstock High School where she had great friends who she continued getting together with on a monthly basis all through the years. Married Robert A. Johnson in Rockford on October 18, 1953. He died October 28, 2013. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Our Master’s Center. She and her family had previously been members of St. John’s United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher. She had been a long time member of Home Extension. Jean was a loving wife, mom, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a caring, faith filled, strong woman who often put others before herself. Her presence in this world left it a better place. Jean was a very talented writer who excelled at writing poetry and making book marks. She always loved reading and traveling with Bob and her family. When she transitioned to Morning Star Village, she found a new set of wonderful friends with the staff and other residents. She loved playing bingo and flower arranging along with all of the activities there.
Survivors include her children, Barb Black, Mark (Cappy) Johnson and Nancy (Mike) Willuweit; grandchildren, Ryan (Maryna) Johnson and Kari (Shannon) Kruger; great-grandchildren, Vera and Mia Johnson; nieces and nephews, Gail (Brian) Quinn, Blake Johnson and Jim (Lesley) Tilley, niece and goddaughter, Charlene (Scott) Connelly. Also survived by several special friends and neighbors. Predeceased by her husband, parents; infant daughter, Janice Tilley; son-in-law, Stew Black; niece, Jeanne Shank and other extended family members. The Johnson family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at P.A. Peterson for the loving care that was extended to Jean during her time there.
Due to the covid pandemic a Celebration of Life for Jean will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made directly to Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W. State Street, Rockford, IL 61102 or Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity, 5183 Harlem Rd., Ste. 3, Loves Park, IL 61111.
