Jean E. Babcock, 96, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. She was born on September 9, 1927, in Waterman, Illinois, one of three daughters to Leon and Marian (Wentch) Foiles. She went on to obtain a degree from a business college and later, on August 23, 1947, she married the love of her life, Robert Babcock in Beloit, Wisconsin. Her husband Robert accredited Jean to the raising of their 6 children. After the children were old enough Jean went back to work at RMH Central Services for many years. Jean was an avid golfer and skier. She started sking at the age of 49. She was proud to be on golf leagues such as Atwood Golf Club, Ingersoll Golf Club, and on St. Patrick’s golf league where she and Robert were long time parishioners. She also volunteered at the church on the funeral guild for the luncheons and for the yearly corned beef and cabbage dinner. A quiet community service person, Jean will be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She will be missed by those who loved her most, her sons, Ronald (Peggy) Babcock, Brian (Kathy) Babcock, Ray (Robin) Babcock, Ken (Monica) Babcock, and Jeff (Julie) Babcock; her daughter, Nancy; sisters, Fren Wrangler and Carol Toscak; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert; brother, Robert Foiles; brothers-in-law, Wayne Wrangler , Reg Toscak, Leo Popanz, Richard Babcock, Bob Partridge. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 2505 School Street, Rockford, IL 61101. A visitation will take place on Friday, December 1st, 2023, at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral Mass. Interment to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Winnebago, IL.
