Jay Peter Larson, age 49, of Rockford, IL, was called to heaven by our Lord on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
He was born in Rockford, IL on December 18, 1974, a gift from God to loving parents, Peter and Marianne (Poli) Larson. He graduated from Boylan Catholic High School and went on to complete his Undergraduate Degree from Benedictine University.
A homegrown Rockfordian through and through, he found his calling to be a community servant in the United States Postal Service. Jay worked as a Letter Carrier for the USPS in Rockford, IL for 25 years and served with exceptional fidelity, having not taken a sick day in his 25 year career. It’s true that “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” Jay exemplified this USPS Motto with true honor and respect. He was always willing to lend a hand to all, especially his fellow Letter Carriers, often finishing his route early and then going on to help others finish theirs. Delivering mail was not just a job for Jay, it was a means by which he used to take care of his fellow citizens through caring smiles, thoughtful conversation, kind gestures, and the occasional giving furry friends a treat. Jay was truly a gentle giant, loved by his family, friends, and so many in the Rockford community.
He is survived by his dearest mother, Marianne (Poli) Larson; beloved siblings John (Chris) Larson, Sue Larson, Renee Kanak, Bob (Beth) Larson, Jean Larson, Nicholas Lomma, Carolyn (Chad) Jacobs; Dear Uncle to 10, Great-Uncle to 3, Cherished Cousin to many, and Forever Friend to countless. Preceded in death by his father, Peter Larson and loving sister, Mary (Larson) Lomma. Jay leaves behind a legacy of true companionship with his colleagues, treasured friends, and loving family. We are all the better for having known him and been a part of his life.
