Janice Burkins

Janice “Jan” M. Burkins, 86, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Born to Reno and Alice (Blazis) Rigotti in Rockford, IL, on December 13, 1938. After raising her children, Jan went on to work for the Winnebago County Sherrif’s Department. She worked in work release, warrants department, and then the state attorney’s office until her retirement. Family was important to her, shown through her devotion as a mother and grandmother. She was a gardener and lover of nature, very proud of her yard. In her free time, she could be seen bird watching, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, or walking her beloved dog, Annie. 

 She is survived by her children, Ronald (Laura) Burkins, Michelle (Mark) Davis; grandchildren, Matthew Burkins, Samuel Burkins, Kailyn Davis, Adam Burkins, Kali Davis; niece, Lisa (Roland) Ingalls; and great-nephew, William Ingalls. Jan is predeceased by her parents; sister, Peggy (Harold) Metz; brother, Donnie Rigotti; and infant brother, Robert Rigotti. 

 A visitation will take place Thursday, January 30, 2025, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, IL 61111, from 9:30 through 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Final resting place will be at Owen Center Cemetery.
