Janet L. Weiland

December 18, 1926 — April 9, 2021

Janet L. Weiland, 94, formerly of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2021 at Glenview Terrace Nursing Center in Glenview, IL.

She was born December 18, 1926, in Salem Ohio to Leonard and Florence (Nylander) Ekstrom. She was a graduate of East High School, Class of 1944, and attended Rockford College. Janet married Milo A. Weiland in Rockford where she lived after Milo returned from serving in WWII, and they were married for 53 years. He predeceased her on July 22, 2015. She was a former member of Tabor Lutheran Church where she was part of the Rosa Regina Circle, and where she and her friend, Marilyn, volunteered as wedding ceremony coordinators. Janet was a good and loving wife and mother and a devoted friend. She did many nice things for many people in her lifetime, and she was blessed with many close and lifelong friendships. Janet had many talents, but she was especially gifted at cooking. Desserts were her specialty. She also enjoyed music, singing, theater, and traveling. In her senior years, Janet took many bus trips with friends traveling and sightseeing around the US and later traveled to Europe and Switzerland to visit her close friend from childhood, June Foster. Janet was a member of the Valley View choir and provided the dessert for “movie night” at the Valley View of Rockford where she lived in her later years, which quickly became the main attraction. Janet had an adventurous and fun-loving spirit and enjoyed everything she did. She was a kind and delightful person and a joy to be around. Above all, Janet loved the Lord and maintained an active prayer and devotional life.

She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and will be dearly missed by her children, Kristen Hunt of Rockford, IL, Richard Weiland of Westborough, MA, Katherine Weiland (Bob Seufert) of Portage, MI and Kim Weiland of Highland Park, IL; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is survived by a special sister-in-law, Dorothy Hoffman. Predeceased by her son-in-law, John Hunt. The family would like to thank Glenview Terrace Nursing Center for their loving care and support.
