Janet C. Grygiel

Janet Carol “GG” Grygiel, 74, Rockford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 29, 2016, surrounded by her beloved children. Janet was born June 8, 1942, in Woosung, IL, the daughter of John and Sadie (Farster) Houck. Employed at Sundstrand Corporation for 29 years she personified an excellent work ethic. With love, care and determination she raised four children by herself. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, watching them play baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball. Janet was an independent woman, a great listener with insightful advice who always put others first. Her everlasting positive outlook on life was merely one wonderful personality characteristic. She frequently volunteered to help others, especially those less fortunate. Janet enjoyed nature, weather and being outdoors. As a lifelong loyal Cubs fan she was lucky enough to witness their historic 2016 World Series championship. Janet was a talented painter and creative artist. She enjoyed talking politics and sharing inside jokes with her family. She was a spiritual woman who was an ordained Deacon. Janet was the nucleus of her family; constantly sharing her appreciation for quick-witted humor and passion for a full life well lived. Janet was a genuinely honest, kind-hearted woman who loved to laugh, always cherishing the small things in life. A human angel. We all love you mom.
Janet is survived by her children, Janette Grygiel, Joe Grygiel, Jeff (Jackie) Grygiel, and Jerry Grygiel; her grandchildren, Carras and Drew Grygiel; her brothers and sisters, Bill Houck, Bob Houck, Don Houck, Walt Houck, Phyllis Wittenauer, Cheryl Shetler, and Denny Houck. Predeceased by her sisters, Mary White, Darlene Houck, Dorothy Glick, and Pat Houck; and her brother, John “Ber” Houck.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford.
