James W. Tooley

James W. Tooley, 93, of Rockford, IL passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022. He was born, January 17, 1929, in Rockford, IL the son of James O. Tooley and Esther (Wall). James attended Rockford West High School, class of 1947. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years as a code breaker in electronic surveillance for Naval Intelligence. He married the love of his life, Helen “Honey” Lange on February 4, 1950. James worked at Woodward, Patterson Dental and as facility manager at St. Mark Lutheran Church. James was a disciplined, gentle spirit who enjoyed being with people and loved playing with his grandsons. James also enjoyed golfing and skiing in his younger years. In his later years, he enjoyed working with wood and making stained glass art. He was a member of the American Legion of Belvidere. James will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

James is survived by his son, David (Kathy) Tooley; grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly) Tooley, Josh (Sarah) Tooley, Chris (Linda) Tooley; great grandchildren, Forrest, Everett, Warren and another grandson on the way; brother, Robert Tooley; many nieces and nephews. James is predeceased by his parents, wife, “Honey”, sisters Jeanetta and Laura.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
