James W. Nichols, 76, of Cherry Valley passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 in his home. Born October 5, 1942, the son of James and Marie (Bonk) Nichols. James was a veteran serving in the United States Marines for 4 years and was promoted to Captain. James married Rosalie Hehn on September 2, 1963 at St. Rita Catholic Church in Chicago. James was an electrical engineer employed for Kelso Burnett and retired as manager of the Rockford branch. James liked to stay active outdoors with hiking, fishing and camping. He was a sports fan, favoring the Chicago teams. James was a do-it-yourself kind of man, who was successful in many home projects.
Survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosalie; children, Lori (Chuck) Doherty, Jeff (Anne) Nichols and Ed Nichols; grandchildren, Nick Doherty, Will Doherty, Alexis Nichols and Julia Nichols; brother, Charles (Sharon) Nichols; nephew, Kurt Nichols and niece, Amanda Nichols. Preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6524 Valley Knoll Drive, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Burial in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Johnsburg at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in James’ name to the American Red Cross. Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, assisted the family.
