James W. Jim Currie, 88, of Rockford, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.nbsp; He was born August 23, 1921, in Quincy, Massachusetts,nbsp; the son of Charles and Mary (Huggin) Currie.nbsp; Jim married Elizabeth Bettie Neals in Hyde Park, Massachusetts on October 23, 1941. He was a US Navy veteran, serving in the South Seas during WWII.nbsp; Jim was a plant engineer for Sundstrand Corporation and prior to that, he taught at the Woods Hole Maritime Academy in Hyannis, Massachusetts. He loved to golf and sail.nbsp; Jim was a past member of the American Legion, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Massachusetts, and a past member of the Rockford Mens Singers.

Survived by his wife, Bettie; son, David of Pensacola, Florida; daughters, Mari (Kenneth) Alfrey of Rockford and Heather (Michael) Wysong of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jennifer Reader, Jessica (Nathan) Grove, James Allen (Christina) Penman, Kristofer, Jonathan, and Nicholas Wysong; great-grandchildren, T.J., Kylie, and Kenton Schrader, Tyler, Logan and Abigail Grove, Hunter and Landon Penman.nbsp; Predeceased by his parents; daughter, Judith Penman; sons, Kenneth Charles and George Thomas Currie; and granddaughter, Rebecca Wysong.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:30 3:00pm on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Independence Village, 3655 N. Alpine Rd. Rockford, IL 61114. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 S.
