James Paul Callea

Devoted Husband, Father and Nanu
James Paul Callea, of Rockford, died January 25, 2014 at Rockford Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born February 2, 1923 in Winding Gulf, WV, the loving son of Carmello and Rose (Fanara) Callea. Attended Rockford Central High School and entered into the US Army and was honorably discharged. Married his wife of 59 years, Florence Caltagerone on April 23, 1955 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Worked for Straken Company until his retirement. Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and nature. Most importantly, he was a true inspiration to his family, especially his children and grandchildren. They were the center of his world, as he was of theirs. The positive impact he had on them is a true testament to his life. Incredibly wonderful times spent together will be forever cherished. He will missed dearly by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; son, Charles (Cindy) Callea of Inverness; daughters, Rosemary Callea-Papke and Nancy Callea-Kratz both of Rockford; grandchildren, David Papke, Gina Papke, Matthew Papke, John Kratz and Megan Kratz; brother, Frank Callea of Rockford, as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Peter, Louis, Gregory and Patricia, and niece, Diana Callea.
Funeral Mass Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St. at 11 a.m. with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of prayer at 10:45 a.m. at church. Entombment will be held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago.
