James L. Martin James L. Martin, 76, a resident of Rockford for 30 years, died on November 8, 2007 In his home. Jim was born on September 18, 1931 in Bradford, Pennsylvania, the son of James Clifford and Florence (Cotton) Martin and had attended Bradford High School. Jim was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 1954. He was a former Maryland State Trooper and had worked as a salesman for Twin City Supply in Loves Park until his retirement in 1993. Jim was fond of fishing and woodworking and loved his faithful dogs Scarlet and the late Beau. Jim is survived by his companion of 23 years, Nikki Shoemaker of Rockford; his two sons, Jay (Diane) Martin of Maple Wood, MN and Jack (Janet) Martin of Woodbury, MN; his daughter, Lynn (Fred) Falk of Woodbury, MN; his sister, Clair Smeigh of Bradford, PA; his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gloria Rausch of Amherst, NY. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at 3 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. Dr. William R. Kerr, Sr. officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 pm until time of service. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to Nikki Shoemaker for a memorial fund to be established at a later date.
